Radiant Orchids Wedding

Good Monday morning friends,
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Between the wedding and Bustello coffee, I made it.  

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of working on this purple-themed wedding. The reception started at 3:30 p.m., yes it was an afternoon celebration, and ended around 10:00 p.m. First I have to say, this event was for a personal friend, which kind of made things easier because I knew her taste. but, I was more than just a designer and planner this weekend, I was the day-of coordinator, friend, and guest, and at times counselor and referee. The crew that was working with me did an awesome job at helping this entire past weekend. If it wasn't for them, this may have been a very difficult two days. So I was very grateful for them. The theme was a beautiful shade of purple mixed with some silver and black. Easy enough, since Pantone had announced Radiant Orchid was 2014 color of the year. Take a look at what we came up with.

As I said the theme was radiant purple, so I used a purple pintuck tablecloth for the guests tables with white chair covers and purple sashes. The cake table was covered in a white tablecloth with silver embroidered organza overlay. The centerpieces were tall trumpet vases filled with purple-colored water sitting on four smaller cylinder vases, white hydrangeas, and purple orchids added a sophisticated touch without going overboard and over budget on the flowers. We added a little bling on the vases, after all this is a special day. We added four small votive candles on the glass stand for a romantic look. On the tables were, small milk bottles filled with Kremas (a Haitian version of eggnog), small gift boxes filled with Hersheys Kisses, the Program/Menu card, Champagne flutes, and of course the napkins and utensils. 

The couple's sweetheart table had the flowers in a lower vase and with four short cylinder vases with a floating candle purple orchids. That table was covered in a white rosette tablecloth. We also made sure they had their own personal plates and appetizers. 

On one side of the room we set up the appetizers, which included: crab salad, crackers, meatballs, cheese platter, veggie platter, Haitian patties (beef, chicken, & fish), dumplings, cheese sticks, chicken wings. Even though, we had a buffet setup, friends and family served the food as the guests came down the line. which included: baked chicken, griot (fried pork), pikliz (spicy cabbage pickle with a vinegar base and spiced up with cloves, garlic, carrots), three type of rice, two king fish (specially requested by the groom), romaine salad, bread rolls, green string beans, corn, meatballs, and a chicken sauce. It was all so delicious. 








We hired a professional bartender who did an excellent job at mixing cocktails and taking care of the bar. Fully stocked with the best and of course, juices, sodas, and water. I was surprised to see the tip he made, which was a testimony to his work that night.  My crew and I made sure that the day went smoothly with minimum interruptions. If there were any problems, no one knew of it.  One of the bride's sister read a poem, the groom's sister spoke on behalf of his family, and the floor was open for guests to say a few words. And while that was going on, we took out the food and placed them in the chaffing pans which were already heated, so no one ate cold food and everything tasted fresh. 

The room was transformed by using up-lights along the walls, disco light by the DJ, which had lights sparkled on the ceiling, which added to the ambiance of the event. The wall on the stage behind the couple was draped in white. Our in-house DJDestruct played songs from Soca to Haitian Kompas, R&B, Hip Pop, Reggae, and Calypso. No complaints on the music.    

Surrounded by friends and families, we danced and partied until 10:00 pm before cleaning up. The day was a total success. I was very happy with the turnout and the efficiency of my crew. The newlyweds, the guests, and both families were very happy with our work and so was I. We provided the entire entertainment and decor for that day, utilizing the best vendors and we love it the result.
